~Vintage Cottage Canisters~

Hollyhocks along the pathway....

My latest find ~ from The World's Longest Yard Sale!! We have spent the last three days travelling Route 127 in Ohio and Kentucky, scooping up pretty treasures like these! I'll be sharing my finds over the next few days.
These canisters are the last thing I bought before we headed back home yesterday.
I was really glad I had enough money left to buy these; I would have regretted leaving them behind! They will go perfectly in my cottage kitchen!
Come back and visit soon to read more about the sale and see more goodies!

The Tale of the Bluebird

When my mom sold the home I grew up in, she left behind some treasures. Her small collection of bird figurines/music boxes were among those treasures.

A couple of weeks ago, the lady who bought the house was having a yard sale. Some of my mom's music boxes were among the offerings. As my mom and I drove away from the sale, we talked of how we were both tempted to buy back her birdies, but we felt a little awkward doing so.......

Well, I couldn't stop thinking about them, so later that weekend, I told my husband we were going to get those music boxes for my mom. As we pulled into the driveway, I didn't spot them on the table where they had been earlier. I told the lady, "We came back for the music boxes, but I see someone has already bought them." To which she replied, "Yes, your mom came back and bought them! And she bought the bluebird one for you!!"

I had to laugh, and called my mom from my cell phone as we left the sale. We both smiled, that we had each thought of the other, and wanted them to have something special from our former home.

My precious bluebird music box, now with two sweet memories!

(The music box plays "Beautiful Dreamer" :)
Thanks for stopping by!!

Junkin'
My favorite junk store is closing. Had to stop in one last time, and this is what I found.
Old wooden hanger with chippy painted flowers.

HUGE old plastic hatbox with faded fabric...... I'll store millinery flowers in this.

Another wicker shelf for my studio -- I already have one in pink and one in yellow.

Sweet little pack of vintage Easter seals.

Originally five cents!
I'll miss this neat old store; you never knew what you were going to find there!
(Thankfully, I still have my favorite shabby vintage shoppe and my favorite antiques store nearby. I just might have to visit them soon, to console myself of course. ;)

I know, I know -- it's hard for me to believe too, but I won this beautiful pin cushion in yet another giveaway!! (some of you have suggested I might want to play the lottery, with the winning streak I seem to be having lately! :)

Look at the sweet detail on this pretty!

This was made and sent to me by Debbie of A Fine Feathered Nest. She also included this pretty pink bookmark!!

Thank you so much, Deb; I just love it, and it will brighten up a spot in my sewing area.

And now, a gift from another Deb.....

Garage Sale Gal Deb sent me these cute little bluebird notecards, as a thank-you for some hollyhock seeds I sent to her. She made these especially for me!! What a thoughtful surprise!!

She included envelopes, but it will be hard for me to part with these pretty cards.
Thank you to both Debs, your kindess is so very appreciated!!

Thanks for the comments on my "altered yearbook photos" -- I'm glad you got a laugh out of them too! I have actually had hair similar to the 1996 "Valerie Bertinelli" look!
Some of the others were before my time ~ but I won't say which ones! :)

Yearbook Yourself
~Simulated Yearbook Photos~
I found this program on Facebook last night..... look at what I might have looked like in high school, from the 50's through the 90's!!

1960 1962
1964
1966
1972

1976
1996
1998

I have to say; this is the most fun I've had in awhile (yeah, I know, I need to get out more! ;)
What was REALLY funny was using my husband's photo for the male versions! Of course, I had to promise not to share them, but they were HILARIOUS!

Give it a try with your photo, and share the results if you dare!! (I used a current photo; I guess you could use an old high school photo, but it wouldn't be nearly as funny! ;)

And thanks for watching the short video of my son (last post) and his band! I'm glad you enjoyed "Jump Jivin"! Wish you could all come to see them in person; they'd love that!! I'll pass along your compliments; we appreciate them!

Another Gorgeous Giveaway Gift!
I am not making this up; I won another giveaway! :)
Look at these absolutely gorgeous pillowcases I won from the lovely Marilyn of Our Victorian Cottage!
Look how pretty they look on our bed!
She made these herself! I am in awe of all the workmanship that went into these!

What beautiful embroidery and crochet detail! And this is how she packaged them: In a pretty pillowcase holder, tied with a sweet little ribbon.
I am going to remove these beauties from our bed when we turn in at night..... I will treasure them and enjoy them so very much. Thank you, dear Marilyn!!
