Our Getaway

To celebrate our 10th anniversary, we went away for the weekend....To the same place we went on our honeymoon ~ Brown County, IN.

These photos taken at my two favorite shoppes there.....Ruth's Garden, and Michael's (not the arts&crafts chain :)

I asked if it would be okay to take a few photos to share with my friends, so you all could see what I enjoyed!! (some of the photos are clickable; don't know why they all aren't! :)

Such pretty displays, ranging from Easter, through autumn, and Christmas too of course!

Next time, I will share what I bought!

Thanks for the anniversary wishes on my last post; I enjoyed reading each and every one. I also wanted to mention that the music playing is from our wedding. The song "Forever" was playing as I walked through the garden gate to meet my groom.

Have a lovely week!!

Pretty Storage
At my favorite antiques shoppe, I spotted this old wooden pop bottle case that had been painted, and antiqued. I *visited* it three times before I bought it!!

But I knew it would be perfect for hanging on my studio wall, to display my spools of laces and crocheted trims, within easy reach of my *creating table*.

I am always on the lookout for pretty ways to store things, such as this vintage planter for holding my tags......
My studio is still a work in progress, but I'm anxious to show it to you!! Hopefully soon!! :)
Thanks for visiting!!

Show & Tell Sunday
Vintage Figurines
This is my first week to join in Show & Tell Sunday, hosted by LittlePinkStudio. The theme this week is vintage figurines; so I'm sharing some of my favorites.
Here's a sweet angel that currently sits on our bedroom mantel.....

This is a darling couple is only a few inches tall ~ they look blissful, don't they?

I like these umbrella girl figurines...... I think they used to hold a chain for poodles. I like how their skirts and umbrellas have real fabric and lace.

Of course, I had to include a little bluebird!

Closeups of some of their sweet faces.

A little clip-on angel......

I have lots of vintage figurines that are Christmas-themed; I'll share them at another time.

Please visit LittlePink Studio for a complete list of participants, and have fun looking at the lovelies!

Cottage Dreams

Every morning, I *entertain* my family with my dreams from the night before. I have quite vivid, detailed dreams, to which they would readily attest, since they have to listen to them each morning.

The other night, I dreamt that I had a blue cottage........

The dream began with me being young and single, looking for a home of my own. I found an absolutely charming little blue cottage. Blue with white trim. It was very small, and it was in need of some repair, but had so much potential of being just the cutest home ever!! The story was that an old movie called "The Enchanted Cottage" had been filmed there, many years ago, a fact which I found -- well, enchanting. The yard was small and quite manageable, with a cottage garden that would not take much work to restore to loveliness. The only drawback was that the house was in a very bad (unsafe) neighborhood. In my dream, I weighed out my decision ~ was the beautiful little blue house worth the risk? Ultimately, I decided that it was, and lived happily ever after, in the charming blue cottage (or at least until I woke up in the morning :)

Of course, in my dream, I decided to name my home, "The Enchanted Cottage". When I told Chris that part of my dream, he said "What? The Banshee Cottage?" No, NO, I replied, "The Enchanted Cottage"!!!!!! Men, they just don't get it!!

As I don't have a picture of the house from my dream to show you, I posted a picture of our little blue playhouse in its glory days. This picture was taken ten years ago at our backyard garden wedding. We moved the playhouse here with us, but it is in need of repair, just like the cottage in my dream. The other photos are from our garden here in the country.

We were visited by Ike Sunday afternoon, and were left without power through Monday. We read by candlelight (I read decorating magazines, naturally, and Chris read his sci-fi books :)
Then we played card games by candlelight, and talked a lot of course. I "sacrificed" my gold candles for the cause, and I love the way they look after burning them. Maybe it's the sweet memory that makes me like them so....
Some are still without power, so we feel really blessed that ours was only out for a day/overnight. Who would have thought that Ohio could be affected so by a hurricane?

~400th Post~

Gratitude, A Gift, and a Giveaway!!

Can you believe this is my 400th post? One might think I have a lot to say or something!!

First of all, I am grateful for all of you who visit my Bluebirds & Roses Cottage, and to those who leave such kind comments. On my very first post I said, "Welcome to *Of Bluebirds and Roses*! My hope is to share lovely thoughts and things with you.......... "

I hope that I have done so ~ I want my blog to be a happy place to visit; a gentle respite....

Recently, Cindy of My Romantic Home commented on a post about how she'd like to make one of my birdie cones for her home. That inspired me to make one for her in her the colors of her lovely home. (most of you are probably familiar with Cindy's blog, but if not, please visit her, you will be inspired! :)
So I decided to make two cones ~ one for Cindy and one for my 400th post giveaway!!I used soft blue and white to make the cones, then trimmed them with some pretty vintage ribbon I've been saving for a special occasion ~ white crocheted lace with ribbons of blue threaded through it, accented with little blue bouqets....

Here's how they turned out. If you'd like a chance to win one, just mention in your comment that you'd like to enter the giveaway.Anyone reading my blog may enter to win ~ lurkers, please come out of hiding and say "hello". I would love to meet you!!

(Giveaway will be open through the weekend; I'll post a winner early next week! :)
